I thought it was an engaging read. It did hold my interest once I made it past the first 50 pages (sadly, I struggled to get through the first fifty because the first half really just did not pull me in to the story at all). However, I've never been a real big fan of "sci-fi" to begin with... and when I do read in that genre, I'm pretty picky and it has to really stand out to me. This kind of failed to do that. It was stereotypical and predictable and was generally just a so-so read for me. It wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either. I will still likely continue reading the series later just to tame my curiosity of what happens, but I'm not in any rush to go out and buy them all exactly at this moment needless to say. Although, I will eventually. I'd give it a slightly higher rating than just a 2- probably a 2.8, though.
